What Can Tow a LiV? A Lightweight Travel Trailer for Almost Any Vehicle

One of the most common questions we hear is simple: what do I need to tow a LiV? The happy surprise for most people is that you do not need a full-size truck — and often not even a large SUV. Because every LiV is built from 100% thermoplastic composite instead of a heavy wood frame, our trailers weigh hundreds of pounds less than a comparable wood-framed travel trailer, which opens towing up to far more vehicles than most people expect.

You do not just need an SUV

Our lightest travel trailers — the 13-series — come in around 1,870 lbs dry. At that weight, a trailer is within reach of a lot more than pickups and big SUVs: crossovers, minivans, smaller SUVs, and even some cars and wagons are rated to tow a load this light. Towing capacity varies a lot by make, model year, and whether your vehicle has a factory tow package, so always check your specific vehicle’s rating — but there is a good chance something already in your driveway can pull a 13-series.

(Looking for our ultralight 129 and 159? Those are truck-bed campers — they ride in a pickup bed instead of towing — so they are not in the table below.)

LiV dry weights, lightest to heaviest

Here is every towable model by dry weight — the trailer as it ships from the factory — with a general guide to the kind of vehicle that typically tows it. These are starting points, not promises; read the note under the table before you hitch up.

Important — tow safely. Dry weight is the empty trailer; what you actually tow is the loaded weight, up to each model’s GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) — for the 13-series that is about 2,990 lbs fully loaded. Before you tow, check the specific model’s GVWR on its spec page, compare it against your vehicle’s tow rating, hitch limits, and owner’s manual, and never exceed them. When in doubt, talk to us — we will help you match a floorplan to the vehicle you already own.

Why a LiV tows lighter

A traditional travel trailer carries the weight of a wooden frame, particle-board floors, and the moisture that wood eventually absorbs. A LiV does not. The structure is a patented double-welded composite unibody with zero structural wood, so the same interior space comes in at a lower weight — and stays there, because the composite never soaks up water and gains pounds over its life.

Lighter also means easier: less sway, better fuel economy, simpler backing and parking, and a trailer your current vehicle may already be rated to pull. Browse the full lineup or build and price a model to see the exact weight and specs for the floorplan you have in mind.
